A Case of Air-bag Induced Corneal Injury in a Pediatric Patient

Abstract
|
|
|
Purpose: To report a case of air-bag induced corneal injury during traffic accident in a pediatric patient.
Methods: A 11-year-old boy was admitted and complained of severe photophobia on both eyes after air-bag working while traffic accidents 3 years ago. Slit lamp biomicroscopy revealed conjunctival hyperemia, diffuse punctuate epithelial erosion and subepithelial opacity on his corneas. Other ocular examination such as direct ophthalmoscopeand corneal topography was normal.
Results: He was treated under diagnosis of chemical keratitis with preservative-free artificial tears and gel-type lubricant eyedrops. After 1 month, the conjunctival injection and corneal erosion were improved gradually.
Conclusions: In airbag-induced corneal injury in children, detail evaluation, prompt removal of the chemicalsand proper management of complications are necessary.
